Personal Coaching

“Coaching helps me define where I want to go and gets me there faster and more easily than if I worked at it on my own”

What is coaching?

Coaching is a conversation between two people, the coach and the client. Simplistically, the role of the coach is to support the client in achieving their goals.

How does coaching differ from therapy or counselling?

There are three major and significant differences that set coaching apart.

  • In many situations, a therapist or counsellor will look to the immediate or distant past to prescribe an appropriate solution to a patient’s problems. Although I will have a good understanding of how your past has created your present, the focus of every coaching session will be on where you are now and where you want to be in the future. I have no prescriptions as every situation, every session, and every client is unique.
  • Therapy or counselling may address a single and specific physical or mental condition. As a coach I’m interested in you as a whole, and am aqutely aware of the interactions between all areas of your life. Instead of delving into causes a coach will focus in a holistic manner on your mind, body and spirit to help you achieve your objectives.
  • A coach has time to work with you. During your session, a coach will be totally committed to you and your needs. We work together, but it is you who defines what you want from life and how you will get it.

The main purpose of coaching is to empower you to take control of every aspect of your life along with acceptance of your personal responsibility that is an integral part of such control. As your coach I can show you how to do this and will guide you every step of the way.
“My coach said that he would be like a control tower talking to me down to a safe landing. He did this but, unexpectedly, he showed me how to take off in exciting new directions”

First Session

The first step will be for you and me, as your coach, to truly define with clarity the results you are committed to achieving.

Next you will assess with absolute candour, where you are right now and where you want to be – and what is in between.

I can help you identify the things that keep you from achieving the results you desire and deserve and then work with you to create a game plan.

It will take massive effort to achieve your goals. I will empower you by holding you accountable to the commitments you make. I will help measure, monitor and manage your progress and along the way support you to take consistent action that will lead to the results you demand.

NLP Therapy/ Coaching

When I started out as a personal trainer I soon noticed that some clients were not doing what I was telling them to do. I began asking myself “why is this”?

I then began spending my spare time reading about psychology and therapy. I came across NLP (Neuro linguistic programming) and I was very interested in it. A client at the time told me about Jack Stewart who was a therapist and ran NLP courses. I got in touch with him and had some one-to-one sessions. I was amazed. After a couple of sessions my way of thinking had totally changed. I thought “How can I use this experience to help other people”? I then went on to do a practitioner course with Jack and in 2002 I became a practitioner.

NLP has changed my life. It is the most powerful tool I have ever come across and has helped overcome my biggest fears. To get the big jobs I wanted, I had to do public speaking and be a performer. With NLP I did this and as a result I got the big jobs. When I started doing Ju Jitsu I hated it, I didn’t like being hurt, I’m now a coach and I am training for 1st Dan.

Most recently, I took a lad who I was working with, to Alton Towers. I had become scared of the fayre. I could not believe it when this kid was jumping for joy when he saw the Oblivion ride. (a vertical drop) and he demanded I went on it My initial response was You can feck off. Guess what? I went on it twice, then Rita and all the other major rides. I couldn’t believe it I achieved goals that I didn’t think I’d achieve at 8:am that morning/ All through NLP I trained myself to change my mindset in a split second through self coaching.

What is NLP

NLP was discovered by John Grinder and Richard Bandler in the USA in the 1970’s They studied three healers, all leaders in their field with the simple premise (what is the difference between a world class practitioner and an ordinary one) that makes the deference?

They dismissed the notion that someone who excels in “born great” Grinder and Bandler wanted to find out how anyone could model or duplicate the Milton Erickson (hypnotherapist) Virginia Satir (family therapist) and Fritz Perls (gestalt therapist operated to get the same or indeed better result. Out of the action research came the constantly emerging field called NLP. NLP is no theory: it is a practical process of modelling excellence, health and well being.

It generated a series of easily understood models of how we make sense of the world, how we process information and how we can develop and heal ourselves in ways previously the preserve of fate, chance, luck or great wealth

In common with life coaching, NLP is a conversational process, which occasionally incorporates movement, making its combination empowering.

Since gaining my practitioners certificate, I have worked at some of the top law firms in Liverpool, coaching people and helping them achieve their potential.

In 2006, I worked with Liverpool Community College in which I worked with different sets of students, helping them set goals as well as challenging their beliefs and values.

Most recently I have been working with kids with challenging behaviour, helping them create a vision in their livers as well as working on their own identity

Most training sessions I will use NLP tools to help the client achieve their potential.

* Sessions can also be done over the phone, or via zoom
